'I colour drenched every room in our home and here's why I regret it'

A lot of people decide to renovate their home every now and again, however, some are bound to have regrets if things don't work out exactly how they imagined. One DIY lover has shared the reason she 'regrets' colour drenching her home. However, it's not quite what you might expect.

Morgan, known on Instagram as @brickhomehaven shares posts about reviving her creekside colonial house on Instagram with her 186,000 followers. In her latest reel, she decided to talk about one renovation technique she'd used – colour drenching – and the big effect it has had on her.

Colour drenching is a decorating trend where people paint a room's walls, ceiling, woodwork, radiators, and even furniture and accessories all in the same colour or tonal variations of it.

The technique is supposed to create a seamless, immersive, and cohesive space that blends elements together, rather than focusing on strong contrasts.

It's meant to create a cosy and calming or bold and vibrant atmosphere depending on the colour that has been selected and the addition of textures.

Morgan started her reel with clips of her painting the ceiling in different rooms of her home as overlay text read: "Finally admitting I regret colour drenching every room in my home."

She then showed the final results, adding: "It's too cosy and now I'm a total homebody."

Following up in the caption, she cheekily wrote: "I've been needing to get this off my chest... Don't say I didn't warn you.

"Colour drenching will make your home feel so immersive and relaxing that you might just want to stay in a little more often."

Fans were loving the post, with it racking up more than 3,000 likes.

One person exclaimed: "Thinking about it for our powder room." While another added: "Love colour drenching!"

A third chimed in: "Every room is perfection!"

How do you colour drench a room?

1. Plan out your colour scheme

Choose a colour: It's important to select a colour that resonates with your personal style and the room's function.

Decide on the extent: Figure out which elements you'll include in your drenching – just the walls, or walls, ceiling, and woodwork. You can also paint radiators to make them blend in.

Get the sander out: Lightly sand any glossy surfaces, like skirting boards, to improve paint adhesion

Use a primer: If it's necessary, apply a primer to ensure the paint adheres well and achieves an even finish

3. Apply the paint

Choose the right paint: You'll want to use a multi-surface paint that can be applied to walls, ceilings, and woodwork from the same tin

Paint in stages: First, begin with the ceiling, then paint the walls, followed by the woodwork and any radiators, ensuring each layer is even

Apply multiple coats: Apply extra coats as needed for the best depth and durability

4. Style your space

Create texture and patterns: Make sure you add cushions, throws, and rugs with different textures and patterns to create an elevated finish

Use variations in tone: Introduce other tones or shades of the same colour through your furnishings and accessories to add depth to the scheme

Don't forget the details: Feature your core colour in cushions, lampshades, and wall art to complete the cohesive look.
